George Done is currently Chairman of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He first gained his PPL on Magisters from a Flying Scholarship at Elstree in 1953, and currently flies as part-owner of a Cherokee and a Super Cub at White Waltham, in Berkshire.
His professional career has been in aeronautical engineering and academia, having started as an apprentice at Handley Page Ltd and subsequently becoming an aeroelastician at Bristol Aircraft Co. dealing with flutter and vibration of various aircraft, including Concorde. He is now Professor Emeritus at City University, London, having been, until retirement, Professor of Aeronautics; prior to that he was at the University of Edinburgh.
He has spent periods of industrial secondments at Westland Helicopters Ltd, Yeovil, which led to collaborative research into helicopter rotor dynamics spanning many years, and also at BA Engineering, Heathrow.
