The GA Safety Picture in USA

Richard Collins in a blog last year calculated that while the number of fatal accidents had fallen, this was matched by a commensurate fall in GA hours flown, leaving the rate little different from just over one per cent per 100,000 hours flown, which is where the Western world seems to have settled.  He reflects upon the heightened risk of power reduction or loss during the climb out from take off or a go around and the new fashion in the USA for Angle of Attack announcers.  He sees them as not much of an advance on stall warners and comments:

'Maybe if the stall warning were renamed the AOA warning perhaps the near-hysteria among (US) government folks and some safety mavens about AOA would go away.'
