Clear Canopy Breaker

Richard Teverson has kindly written in about the serious situation that can face the occupants of an aircraft with a clear canopy that hinges upwards in the event of the aircraft ending up inverted on the ground. He sent me a photo of a knife with a short stout blade as carried in some USAF aircraft. Some RAF aircraft carry a ‘crowbar’ - a short spike - for a similar purpose. If you decide to carry something along these lines you will need it to be secured very positively.
