Peter started his aviation career after leaving school with a 5 year Engineering Apprenticeship at Hatfield with Hawker Siddeley Aviation. Upon completion, having qualified in Aero Mechanical engineering he worked for a further 10 years with the company (then British Aerospace) testing and developing aircraft systems. Between 1980 and 2001, he was employed by the AAIB as an Inspector of Air Accidents (Engineering), and from 2001 until 2010 as a Principal Inspector (Engineering), following which he retired. Already a glider pilot, along the way he gained a PPL with SEP, MEP, night and IMC ratings, gaining over 4000 hours TT, and has a LAA Inspector qualification. He has spent many years towing gliders with such tugs as the Super Cub, Pawnee and Robin DR400 and also flies his own 2-seat motor glider. He is currently Chairman of the BGA Safety Sub Committee and represents the BGA on the GASCo Board.
He hopes to support the Board with a broad view of General Aviation and Recreational/Sporting aviation gained from a lifetime spent working with many of the varied aspects of aviation, particularly in the field of Safety.
