Occurrence reports can be used only for the purpose of maintaining or improving aviation safety However, providing that this is your motivation for wanting to see them, and I believe that many of our readers are so motivated, your application to the CAA for ongoing access to Occurrence Reports may well succeed. I understand that EASA is concerned that Occurrence Reports might alternatively be used for purposes of litigation.

Occurrence of the Month this time is a reminder of the importance of getting your moving map system fully set up before departure or it may not give you that vital timely warning that you are straying into trouble. Because the equipment is portable and not part of the aircraft’s fixed equipment it is all too easy to regard it rather casually during pre flight checks.  Actually it is probably a good deal more vital to a successful flight than much of the fixed equipment.

I was working on GS South I noticed a CAIT 5nm NNE of EGMD at A56 climbing to A59. I checked with the controller who has seen it but had no traffic to effect. I called Farnborough LARS who had worked the aircraft but had transferred it to EGMD air traffic so I called them and they said they had told the aircraft the base of controlled airspace. The aircraft left controlled airspace soon after my phone conversation with EGMD air traffic.

Supplementary 30/09/2019 :
This flight was my first channel crossing. As I approached Lydd I climbed without first checking the airspace. This happened due to my over concern to have glide height in case of engine failure in my single engine motorglider and I climbed to an altitude in excess of that which was required for this. I missed the warning on my moving map software as I had not appreciated the importance of switching the sound on. The warning would have disappeared from the screen after a few seconds.
